Screen Printing Is a Fairly New Process Isn't It?
In short, the answer to this question is a resounding - no! The first documented uses of screen printing can be traced right back to the Chinese almost 2000 years ago. Initially, human hair was stretched across a wooden frame to create a screen (thankfully techniques have progressed since then!).
As time progressed, the Japanese took this process forward by using woven silk to create the mesh and lacquers to make stencils. This change initiated the term 'Silk Screening' which is still used in some parts today.
Industry Standard For Quality
When it comes to printing on garments, screen printing is now widely acknowledged to to offer the industry standard for superior quality. So much so in fact that the majority of graphic t-shirts which are sold in major retail stores across the world have been screen printed.
Can I Only Print 1 Shirt & Why Do I Have to Print in Bulk?
Screen printing is a purpose created process designed to be utilised in bulk due to the fact that the technique is ideal for creating results which are bold in appearance yet affordable at the same time.
The printing part of the screen printing process is actually the fastest part with much of the costs relating to the time and effort required in the set up.

Whilst not recommended for bulk orders, this method of printing can offer both a quality and cost effective solution for a variety of different projects including small variations from garment to garment and low quantity orders (typically less than 20).
Utilising our direct print to garment skills are ideal for a wide range of projects, including:

Offering Outstanding Finishes
Commonly used on garments such as t-shirts which are made of cotton or cotton blends, recent developments in direct print to garment technology has allowed us to attain superior performance on light coloured polyester and cotton/poly blends.
Whereas screen-printing is absolutely ideal for longer runs which require few colours, DTG printing the associated costs really begin to come into their own with short runs of colourful designs.
As is the case with screen-printing, prices for DTG printing come down for larger orders. DTG printing is quickest of all and jobs can sometimes be turned round in a couple of days.
How Does Direct to Print Garment Actually Work?
Essentially, DTG printers are bigger versions of the standard desktop inkjet printer which are commonly found in homes and offices throughout the country. The difference being that these specialist printers use a unique type of specifically formulated pigment ink which, when combined with a fusing agent ensures that, when the design has been printed and heat pressed on the garments, the fusing agent enables the inks to permanently adhere to the fibres of the fabric.
The outcome is a high quality, vibrant coloured print that is extremely durable and long lasting. So if you are worried about instant fading of your design, fear no more, as the inks have been developed and vigorously tested to prevent such problems occurring.
